“I attribute all my rehabilitation to education. In my reading of Othello, I learnt about empathy. In Of Mice and Men I learnt about the victim and how our actions have an impact on other people. In Jude the Obscure, I learnt to love and grieve at the same time.
“That is how important education is in prison. Giving someone a voice can seep into his soul and have an impact on how he goes forward in life and contributes in a proactive manner and becomes a valid member of society.”
years experience
courses and materials to prison learners
prisons we work with
For 30 years, Prisoners’ Education Trust has worked in prisons in England and Wales, funding courses that are not usually available – from bookkeeping to beekeeping – up to degree level.
Through our funding, 2,000 people a year gain skills and qualifications that can help them leave prison ready and able to build a brighter future. In fact, our courses are proven to lower the chance of someone committing another crime, and increase the chance of them finding work.
Education allows someone to rebuild their life, support their family and contribute to our society.
Together, we can provide someone with hope in a dark place.
